A low-angle view looking up at golden cosmos swaying in the wind on the flower hill at Hanataka Observatory

This photo captures golden cosmos blooming at Hanataka Flower Viewing Hill, shot from below looking up. I deliberately chose this low angle to dynamically express the flowers swaying in the wind. A recommended spot for photography from summer into early autumn is the Hanataka Viewing Flower Hill in Gunma Prefecture. Sunflowers in full bloom look especially striking when photographed from a low angle to include a wide expanse of sky, or from a high vantage point to emphasize depth. Yellow cosmos, which bloom at a different time, expand compositional possibilities—used as foreground blur or to frame sunflowers through their blooms. The true charm of this spot lies in capturing the “flower relay,” packing seasonal change into a single shot. Since the impression changes with wind and light conditions, timing your shoot carefully is key.
