Kuromiya Shrine

Capturing the mystical atmosphere created by the camphor tree and sunlight filtering through the trees at Kuromiya Shrine

Kaminomiya Shrine is a place where you can feel the tranquil atmosphere of a historic shrine and the beauty of nature. The sacred giant camphor tree, over 2000 years old, is particularly impressive, and capturing its powerful form in photos is highly recommended. Visiting during the time when sunlight filters through the trees creates an even more fantastical atmosphere. Furthermore, utilizing the quietness of the shrine grounds, compositions with the vermilion torii gates and shrine buildings as a backdrop are also charming. It's a spot where you can enjoy photography with a calm heart while feeling the mystical air.

Key points for photography

The key to photographing the shrine is to take advantage of the light and stillness to express the shrine's unique mystique. At Raikyu Shrine, we recommend that you first place the sacred tree, the camphor tree, as the main subject, and look for an angle that conveys the power of the trunk and its twisted form. If the composition is made by looking up slightly, the life force of the tree, which is over 2,000 years old, will be emphasized even more. The time of day when the sun shines through the trees is a particularly good time to take this shot, as the light falls through the gaps between the leaves, creating soft shadows on the trunk and the ground and creating a fantastic atmosphere. Do not set the exposure too brightly, but just enough to bring out the streaks of light to create a subdued impression.
