This photograph captures the vibrant new green of the maple leaves at Ichijō Keikan Sansō, the moss carpet, and the contrast of dappled sunlight and shadow. It encapsulates the charm of a Japanese garden where tranquility and beauty harmonize. The Ichijō Keikan Mountain Villa is an early Edo-period mountain retreat quietly nestled deep within Nikaidō, Kamakura. Built by Prince Ichijō Keikan, a son of Emperor Go-Yōzei, both the structure and garden were relocated from Kyoto. During the rainy season, hydrangeas bloom, coloring the moss-covered stone paths and wooden architecture, while cool flower hand-water displays delight visitors' eyes. In autumn, the vibrant reds and yellows of the maple leaves softly color the garden, allowing visitors to savor the essence of Japanese aesthetics with all five senses.
